Caretaker operations for a top-level domain

IANA may denote specific top-level domains as in caretaker operations. This means that the domain is in a temporary transitional state designed to sustain basic operations.

Situations where a caretaker designation may be made include:

• ICANN has established an emergency back-end registry operator (EBERO) to operate the domain. The EBERO program provides for appointing such operators as a temporary measure to sustain service for some top-level domains.
